Beard's Last Second Shot Lifts Sparks Over Storm

With 10.2 seconds left in the game, Alana Beard hit a jumper to cap off a second half comeback and give the Sparks their third consecutive road win.

"We had several options," Beard said about the last shot. "When Lindsey [Harding] drove, it opened up the lane for me to pull up for a jump shot. It just came after the first option wasn't there, the second option wasn't there and I became the third of fourth option."

No matter which option Beard was, she came through in the final seconds to secure the win with a score of 65-64. She finished to the night with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Second year post Nneka Ogwumike tied her season-high with 24 points and added 9 rebounds. She shot 10-14 from the field. The Sparks two stars Candace Parker and Kristi Toliver struggled again, being held to just 7 and 9 points respectively.

The Sparks were down early, fighting against a consistent 10 point deficit throughout most of the first half. They went into the locker room at halftime down 39-21. In the third quarter they outscored Seattle by a score of 21-14. The Sparks went on a 17-4 run out in the quarter to give them a 50-49 lead. Oqwumike had 8 points in the run while Toliver added five.

Parker was sent to the line and made one of two shots with a minute left in the game, cutting the lead to 62-61. Seattle's Tameka Johnson then scored a layup to make it 64-61, but Harding responded on the other end cutting the lead again to just one, 64-63. Shekinna Stricklen missed a 3-point shot with 23 seconds left. The Sparks grabbed the rebound that led to Beard's game-winner.

Camille Little led the Storm with 22 points. Second year wing Shekinna Stricklen scored 13 points and had 2 assists in her third start of the season. Johnson added 11 points in the loss.

The Storm have lost four of their last five games. Los Angelos extends their win streak over the Storm to eight straight victories. The last time that Seattle defeated Los Angelos was in 2011.

These two teams have just one game before the All-Star break: a rematch in Los Angelos on Thursday, July 25th at 3:30pm ET. The game will be broadcasted on NBA TV and online on Live Access.
