First it was Dennis Pitta going down with a hip injury. Now Ed Dickson is out with a hamstring injury. The MRI showed a small tear in his right hamstring. Coach John Harbaugh has not expressed the exact magnitude of the injury, but he did say that Dickson would be out for about a week to give him some rest.
"We'll try to get him healthy," Harbaugh said. "It's going to be a matter of time, but it's not going to be a long time."
Harbaugh also confirmed that the Ravens will not be looking to sign any additional players. There are enough options on the roster as of late to cover for Dickson while he heals.
In the meantime, veteran Visonthe Shiancoe is getting his turn to work out with the starters.
This injury business is a blessing in disguise. Shiancoe is growing more comfortable with the offense and growing confidence. He is showing great growth during training camp. He may be a consistent red zone target during the season.
With the preseason game against Tampa Bay coming up in just a few days, it's certain that Shiancoe will get reps at the tight end position during the game.
