The Baltimore Orioles have been struggling as of late. But after a day off on Monday to fly out to the West Coast, the birds have gotten back to their winning ways.
Adam Jones, a San Diego native, was the star of the game, going 4-for-4. That marks the first time this season that Jones has done so. With 2 RBIs and a solo homer, he lifted the Orioles to a 4-1 victory over the San Diego Padres.
The Orioles started pitcher Bud Norris who was recently acquired from Houston in a trade. He pitched six innings, giving up five hits, allowing one run, and striking out five. Jim Johnson, who was the closer, got his 39th save of the season.
Now that the playoffs are approaching fast, the focus is on the Wild Card race. The Orioles are just a game and a half behind Texas in the standings. They're also six games behind the AL East leading Boston Red Sox and 4.5 games behind the second place Tampa Bay Rays.
The Orioles need to keep winning if they want to make it to the playoffs. There is no room for error.
The birds take the field again today, Wednesday, August 7th, to face the Padres for the final game in the two game series. The game begins at 3:40pm ET.
