After three straight, quality road wins, including a win in extra innings Friday night, the Orioles lost their game against the Giants Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-2.
The Orioles had a chance to move within a half-game in the AL Wild Card race with a win, but couldn't get their offense going. They more than struggled at the plate, going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and leaving ten men on base. So when starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen gave up three runs in the sixth inning, the birds had no answer.
Despite the overall struggle, two players stood out in the game.
Chen had an impressive outing, if you ignore the sixth inning. He shut out the Giants in 5 of the 6 innings he pitched and struck out two batters. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Giants got their bats swinging. The Giants scores three runs off of three hits and an intentional walk in the inning. Prior to the sixth, they had only produced two hits.
In the bottom of the eight inning, Chris Davis hit his 42nd homer of the season, bringing up his impressive RBI total to 109 on the season. But it just wasn't enough to lead his team to victory.
With the series tied 1-1, the two teams go head to head again today, Sunday, August 11th, at 4:05pm ET. The winner of today's game wins the series.
